Waste, junk, trash! Join Naomi Shihab Nye and the San Antonio Writing Project (SAWP) on Friday, July 1st as they read and write about trash from different angles, drawing inspiration from Nye’s book, Cast Away: Poems for our time. This program is designed for teenage and adult audiences. Participants will be asked to think about trash, the trash they find along their neighborhood walks or the trash you throw out from their homes. Nye and SWAP will challenge participants to think about what we consider to be trash, what happens to trash after we throw it out, and what the trash we throw away says about our habits. Participants will consider how to enact change in daily life to contribute to healthier, ecological outcomes. Participants will be prompted to think about their lived experiences and transform them into truthful messages about what we cast away. During this event, Guests will experience a book reading with Nye, Q&A, poetry building activities, a book signing, and an exclusive tour of our summer exhibit, Earth Matters.
Naomi Shihab Nye of San Antonio has been honored to serve as Young People's Poet Laureate for the Poetry Foundation (Chicago) since 2019-Fall 2022.
Attending the event is $14 for DoSeum Members and $18 for Non-members, registration is required.
