Sorry, we are closed today.
Your child's curiosity knows no bounds and there are no limits to what they can do. The DoSeum Beyond Limits is our revitalized program created to meet the needs of all of San Antonio's children, no matter how big or how small those needs may be. At The DoSeum Beyond Limits, we create a peaceful environment of inclusivity that supports children of all needs—providing a spectrum of possibilities as diverse and vibrant as the children we serve.
Take a break from the chaos of everyday life and enjoy an afternoon of quality time with new opportunities and accommodations specialized to support your family's needs. It is our mission to serve as a place where every child can play & learn—empowering them to excel beyond the ordinary and achieve the extraordinary.
With the support of our community partners, we provide a supportive space, specialized staff, and inclusive opportunities to engage and support your learner. We currently provide the accommodations below and are constantly looking for ways to expand our support!
Smaller, controlled crowds to create a calm, uncrowded environment ideal for families in need of accommodations for high sensitivity to sensory stimuli, limited mobility, and generally in need of a calmer, quieter space.
Accommodating accessories of your choice to make your experience suit your needs. Sunglasses, headphones, and earplugs are all available at the front desk, free of charge.
Assistive signage to help guide your family towards learning environments that best suit your needs—marking high sensory, low sensory, calming, and tactile areas.
Exhibit modifications to create calmer environments for families with high-sensitivities to stimuli, including decreased noise, soothing light changes, and more.
Specialized staff to support your family's learning and play needs; staff are specially trained through consultation with community partners by Any Baby Can and the Region 20 Special Education Department.
Sign Language Interpreters, in training with the San Antonio College Department of American Sign Language to become certified interpreters, will be available on site to interpret.
Customized creative activities, created in collaboration with Artful Start and our Art Education Director, will provide tactile art experiences to engage your learner's creativity in comfortable, supportive ways.
Coming Soon: A 3D printed braille map! We're currently developing a braille map of The DoSeum using our 3D printer—demonstrating the ways in which new technology can be used to aid inaccessible museum experiences!
We will have monthly sensory friendly modified hours from 8-10am starting in January 2020. See below for all 2020 dates

While many families bring their own sunglasses and earplugs, we are happy to provide them as well. At the front desk, parents can grab sunglasses and earplugs for their kiddos. For some children, some sound and light effects can be highly uncomfortable and too harsh. Sunglasses and earplugs make touring The DoSeum more comfortable!
Throughout all indoor and outdoor exhibits, extra signage is placed to warn parents and kiddos of high sensory areas, guide them to low sensory areas, and provide specify cautions or instructions signage for specific exhibit stations.
Big Wind has signage warning about the high intensity, and extra headphones are available to make it more enjoyable! Thanks to Any Baby Can for co-creating signage with us!
Depending on the exhibit, small or large adjustments are made to make them more enjoyable. Volume is decreased throughout all exhibits, flashing lights are dimmed, and certain materials are removed or replaced.
In Imagine It! The floor setting is set to “Under the Sea”, with lights in tones of blue and peaceful ocean noises like waves and whales.
All of the modifications for our Beyond Limits Program make The DoSeum an awesome place for all children in need of modifications. And a big shout out to all of our partners who consulted with us as we developed this program.
