DIY Kinetic Sand

Mix it, mash it, mold it, or cut it! For this DIY, we’re making Kinetic Sand!  Creating kinetic sand at home can help you familiarize your child with ratios and allow them to express themselves through the multiple color options in kinetic sand.  The powerful playtime that follows will be a fun way to incorporate sensory play and develop fine motor skills with your family!

What You'll Need:

  • Decorative sand
  • Canola oil
  • Corn starch or flour
  • A bowl
  • A pan
  • A measuring cup of your choice
  • Any things you want to use to play with your sand. I.E., playdoh tools, small plastic animals, shells, etc.

Building Tips & Tricks:

  • Corn starch will give a silkier finish for your sand
  • Store in a plastic bag, it is able to be used again and again!
  • When measuring the ratio will always be 5:3:1! So it doesn’t matter what tool you use; it will always be 5 scoops of sand, 3 scoops of flour, and 1 scoop of oil.
